Un matin de septembre, alors que je lisais un article dans le journal au sujet de récentes découvertes en astrophysique, j’ai fait l’expérience d’une étrange sensation de vide sous mes pieds. Comme si le sol s’était soudainement évaporé. L’article portait sur l’hypothétique « matière sombre », matière impalpable et invisible à l’œil nu qui composerait néanmoins 80% de l’univers. Apparemment, le monde n’était pas exactement ce que j’en avais toujours perçu. Ni même ce que j’en avais imaginé. L’espace autour de moi était dorénavant envahi d’une matière mystérieuse qui échappait à mon regard. J’ai poursuivi ma lecture et, peu à peu, le vide sous mes pieds s’est tranquillement rempli. Puis, cette sombre matière s’est mise à proliférer de manière exponentielle. Il m’a semblé que bientôt je n’arriverais plus à discerner le paysage environnant. J’avais perdu mes repères.

One morning in September, while I was reading an article in the newspaper about recent discoveries in astrophysics, I experienced a strange sensation of emptiness under my feet. As if the ground had suddenly evaporated. The article was concerned with hypothetical “dark matter”, an impalpable and invisible matter that composes 80 % of the universe nonetheless. Apparently, the world was not exactly what I had always perceived, nor even what I had imagined. The space around me was invaded from now on by a mysterious matter, which somehow escaped my glance. I pursued my reading and, bit-by-bit, the space under my feet quietly filled. Then, this dark matter began proliferating in an exponential way. It seemed to me that soon I would not manage to discern the surrounding landscape anymore. I had lost my marks.
